Today I have kind words about my love of soccer (football for non-U.S. English discussers of the sport) over at my Open Letters blog. Also, because this post was looking so small, and because hunting around YouTube was a good way to ignore the upstairs neighbors’ music (too early for a Saturday morning, kids), a bonus video:

Also, I kinda like having this song stuck in my head.

Today’s “Thank you” is first and foremost to my friend Chris, who shared an awesome pro tip on Google Reader back when that meant something beyond clicking “+1″ on a link for all the world to see but not really notice (you know, like before a few days ago?) Anyway, when I made a note to blog about the item in question, I made sure to cut and paste the message Chris sent with it, because yay for awesomeness (and another thing I will miss about the old Google Reader):

TrAAA-CY!

Thanks also for that message, Chris, it made me grin. And here is the highlight video of the good news, which also made the rounds among my Facebook contacts a month or so ago, and which has made my kitchen a louder but more delicious place:

How to Peel a Head of Garlic in Less Than 10 Seconds from SAVEUR.com on Vimeo.

So there it is. Yay! My reply (again, in Reader, back when such a thing was possible, and I know I am old and cranky and hate and fear change but wah wah wah all the same) was: “I KNOW! So awesome.” And it is. Also, (more…)

So last month Ze Frank blogged a video that made me super-hungry:

EAT from Rick Mereki on Vimeo.

It also inspired me to make a little photocollage of some of the gastronautic highlights of my travels this summer:

Pastry break! Mmmmm, pastries. Awesome pastry shop display. Sitting down to late lunch/early dinner. Coffee and an Obidos specialty
Awesome lunch is awesome. Coffee and pastry break! IMG_0299 Close-up on heroically huge lunch. Coffee and pastry!
Have arrived at lodgings in Lisbon, where they left us the Portuguese equivalent of mints on pillow: pasteis de nata (custard-filled pastry cups). Setting up for breakfast. Breakfast at a sidewalk cafe before heading to the airport. Big lunch! Coffee and treats break!

So, yeah, that was pretty great. You can click on any of those little images to go to bigger versions on Flickr. Some even have descriptions! Others I may have to write about at greater length some other time, and still others I did not photograph but should describe in glorious detail before they get any more faded in my memory. (Also note that these are only the pictures I took of our trip, which is why I am not in any of them; Peter has the pictures of me going “OMG NOM YES” but they aren’t in a place where I can link to them yet.)

Monkey Monday: Dan and Dan sing about eggs! 17 May 2010 7:01 pm

I know, I know, I’m about a million years behind on all the awesomeness the Intergoogletwitfacetubes have to offer, but big thanks to Ze Frank for blogging about Dan and Dan’s Daily Mail song, so I could waste a dryer cycle watching their videos, including this gem, which is going to be stuck in my head for the foreseeable future, not that there’s anything wrong with that:

Yay for fun songs that combine eggs and tea—two of my very favorite things!

First things first, I know this doesn’t really have anything to do with food but it makes me incredibly happy so I’m posting it wherever I can:

If you like that, you will also like this (it’s really quick, I promise!)

And now, for something less completely different. (more…)
