Today’s post is dedicated to Ansley, not just for reminding me to write it, but also because she is going to CancĂșn for a long weekend tomorrow and I’m maybe just a little jealous. Anyway, have an awesome trip, lady, and do not even try to match the ridiculously huge pile of stuff I scored in the process of flying to Amsterdam at the beginning of the month:

Schwag from Virgin Upper Class.
Schwag from Virgin Upper Class

On top of the shoe bag, which I totally did use, you can see such diverse items as socks, a toothbrush, an Upper Class luggage tag, some very cute envelopes, and a copy of The Economist (which I finally finished reading yesterday because I am a giant slacker and also because I have been reading overtime to keep the pile of New Yorkers smaller than I am. Specifically TracyFood-related items (I guess the toothbrush sort of counts, too) include (more…)

Tea for Tuesday: souvenir edition. 26 May 2009 7:50 am

So right after my finals week tea-fueled all-nighter of Wednesday wackiness, I celebrated the end of the term by handing in my vitamin C paper (about which I would later have an anxiety dream, but that’s neither here nor there except yesterday Ansley posted a comment wondering about our grades) and going on a food tour of Flushing, Queens. The expedition was organized some of my fellow graduate students, and atttended by many more. It deserves a full writeup which I’ll get to one of these days (a recurring TracyFood theme, I know) but today’s post is about a little souvenir I brought home from an as-yet-unidentified Chinese grocery store on Main Street in Flushing’s Chinatown:

A more readable shot of the label.

Yep, that’s right, a can of tea. (more…)

Today’s very quick post is dedicated to the continued successful writing of my Vitamin C paper, and the following video, which makes me happy every time I watch it. So awesome.

I think it kicks over into pure genius at “When I say ‘Earl Grey,’ you say ‘Yes, please!’” but there’s a call-and-response later on in the song that manages to be even more brilliant. If you don’t believe me, that’s okay — but it does mean you’ll have to watch the video and see if I’m right, or just not wrong.

Enjoy!

Tea for Tuesday: still life with subway 24 March 2009 10:50 pm

Look at me, easing my way back into posting after spring break! It was a good one, complete with bike-riding and my traditional getting sick as a dog, and “thanks” to the latter my liver has some serious recovering to do, because cold medicine is rough stuff. Blech. BUT. I’m back, and wrangling pictures, and I’m having a hard time deciding picking which favorites to publish (as always, click on pictures to see larger versions on Flickr).

I like the way this one frames the tea bag I spotted on top of a pay phone at the 125th Street ACBD station (downtown platform):

Still life with tea bag.
