A Thank You Thursday recipe 12 January 2012 8:12 pm

Today I would like to thank my brother Piett for digging up the booklet of recipes that came with the Cuisinart ice cream machine which we recently passed on to him after replacing it with a KitchenAid attachment (yay more shelf space and a corrollary thank-you to our parents for both those gadgets, whee!) The recipes that came with the new toy look good, but kinda fancy: egg yolks and cookery and whatnot. None of them have quite the exquisite simplicity of the concoction which this post immortalizes for availability when and wherever I have intertweetplusface access, yay! Also, because this would hardly feel like a proper blog post without a bit of linkage, here’s what the New York Times food section had to say about eggless ice creams a year and a half ago (hint: good stuff, and I should try that berry recipe some time!) Ok, enough introduction, on with the treats! (more…)

So yesterday I posted the following picture to Twitter and Tumblr via Instagram on my iPhone (remember that comic I shared on Tuesday with a character reading news from “this thing I can’t put down to save my life”? Yeah, that’s me. Anyway):

Experimenting with coffee-by-weights-not-volumes, as described in this week's New Yorker (yay annual food issue!)
Exciting!

And today I’m going to elaborate considerably on that picture. Because that’s just how I roll. (more…)

This first picture explains why this would be an almost Wordless Wednesday even if I hadn’t written this little intro bit:

Roasted Roots
I made these for the Sundance hot buffet once, way back in the day.

Thank You Thursday: Salsa Verde recipe 10 November 2011 9:53 am

Today’s thanks are to Juan, a field manager at Groundwork Organics (the farm where we participated in an awesome CSA back in Eugene) who shared this recipe, and his boss Sophie, who wrote it up in the CSA newsletter one week when they gave us tomatillos… so delicious. Anyway, this is maybe just a little modified from that version, but not much. If you’re curious what any of this looks like, I refer you back to yesterday’s post. This sauce is especially good on chilaquiles or any other application of Simple Savory Black Beans, but for some reason I have never tried it on brown gack. Clearly, further experimentation is warranted (and science rules)! (more…)
