I was on a posting roll this week, readers, but then yesterday I got distracted and completely forgot to post the best which I had been saving for last: pictures of two specialty pies from Pizza Research Institute in Eugene, OR. We got them the week of Peter’s graduation, which means I’ve been meaning to post about them, and PRI, for not quite a year now. Whoops. But better late than never, right? Right. So here goes.

Don’t worry, there are bigger versions of these pictures later.

Some of you may be asking, “Wait, Tracy, Pizza Research Institute?” Why yes, dear readers unfamiliar with Eugene, that would be the establishment with the unforgettable slogan “Tomorrow’s Pizza Today.” (more…)

I may have created monsters last night, readers. 9 February 2010 11:49 am

One is the paper due in my industrial food class tomorrow, which is currently in very drafty form, full of rambles like:

…Hotchkiss comes in, pretending that change is this magical uniform unstoppable force kind of thing, but fortunately we also have the MIT book reminding us that there was no shortage of immovable objects — and sometimes those immovable objects were people, even if sometimes those people were embodying social forces (*cough* PATRIARCHY *cough* I am looking at you, Professor Sedgwick, you jerkface you. *cough cough cough*)

Yeah, I’ve got some revising to do. But anything written is better than nothing, and editing things to make them suck less is way easier than writing, so hey, I’ll take what I got.

Last night’s other little monster, I am happy to report, was of the edible persuasion, and I got pictures.

Friiiiiiieeeeees.   Friiiiiiieeeeees.
I’m posting both because the real color is somewhere in between too dark without flash, and weirdly over-lit with. Also, because more fries!

Foto Friday: Oma’s 80th birthday 24 July 2009 8:33 am

According to my mother, the original plan for Oma’s 80th birthday was to keep things simple. Sure, we rescheduled a bit, since December 29 is a terrible time for family gatherings for reasons at least equal in number to the strong personalities involved in such a gathering, and June decreased the likelihood of lousy Dutch winter weather cramming us all indoors together. The date decided, Mom proposed a family meal at a nice restaurant, only then… well, neither she nor my aunt Ingrid are willing to take or give any blame about this development, but next thing anybody knew, a small family get-together had turned into Oma inviting everyone she knows and loves for drinks and munchies in Ingrid’s back yard. What can I say? My Oma loves being in the middle of a crowd, especially a crowd of family and friends, and celebrating someone turning an age with a zero in it kind of means doing whatever they want. (Have I mentioned that I turn 30 in August? But that I don’t know what I want?) Oma wanted a party, and a party she got. (more…)

As previously mentioned, I had a fabulous time with Allison last week. We had tea almost every day of her visit, and I am looking forward to writing about those tea places. Other memorable TracyFood-type highlights of hanging out with Allison in my new city included finally trying that local Italian place, and revisiting a yummy deli, this time for brunch, and the local Cuban diner. Our fridge is still piled high with the leftovers from that last, but Peter finished my mofongo con queso yesterday. (My willing- nay, eagerness to eat just about anything involving plantains continues unabated.)

In other news, I’ve been doing a 24-hour diet record for my nutrition class for about… 32 hours now, and it’s reminding me why I focus my food obsession on deliciousness über alles — the other stuff makes it way too easy to get obsessive-compulsive. (more…)

Snoop Dogg on Martha Stewart, makin’ mashed potatoes. Comedy gold (big thanks to Ellen for putting it on Facebook for me to enjoy):

Did I mention comedy gold? Because yeah.
