Monkey Monday: a survey, a menu, and more! 25 February 2008 11:25 pm
Posted by Tracy in : Morning Glory, eggs, geekery, meta, nepal, people, pictures, restaurants , 2 commentsToday’s post is late because I was filling out a a web survey about eggs, about which, regular readers of this blog know, I’m sort of obsessed. If you’re in the habit of buying organic, cage free, humanely raised, free range, or otherwise hippie-friendly eggs, the folks behind this survey want to hear from you! For me the open-ended questions were like a series of useful writing prompts, so by the end of the survey (the optional questions, which you can skip if you’re not obsessed like me) I was copying the questions and my answers into a Google Document for future reference (and editing into TracyFood post form, most likely). Did I mention that I have strong opinions about eggs?
But speaking of some of the professional reasons for my strong opinions about eggs, the other reason this post is late is because I covered part of Beth’s shift at Morning Glory. Good times, especially the freaky 2-3 PM rush and the guy who wouldn’t take a hint and finally left at 4:15. Seriously, people, if you’re the only table left in the restaurant and the server tells you it’s past closing time, do the math. And leave a good tip, too. But I digress. Here’s this week’s organic specials: (more…)
Monkey Monday: mac ‘n cheese challenge edition 3 September 2007 8:15 am

(Some of you are sports racers; the rest of you really must check out The Show with Ze Frank.) Peter’s on trail in the high Sierras with his dad and brother this week, so I hitched a ride down to Davis, CA with him on Thursday, to hang out with our friends Chris and Kevin and Tessie and my new friend Ella, all of Everything2 fame. The plan was for me to hang out until Sunday night, then ride Amtrak back up north to Eugene and arrive on Monday. Only when I called Morning Glory earlyish on Saturday to make sure I was covered for Labor Day morning, I found out that my would-be substitute had been fired and there was no one left to cover that shift, which in turn meant lots of angsty phone calls and changes in travel plans. Oops. That’s what I get for not making sure my shift coverage arrangements are confirmed in writing, and maybe notarized to be on the safe side. But oh well. By now, you are wondering what any of this has to do with macaroni and cheese, and rightly so; I have digressed. But read on, and I will explain everything. (more…)
Friday photos and fun! 8 June 2007 9:14 pm

With pictures! For everybody (like me) who’s less visually and more verbally inclined, I was going to post a big list of fun things I’ve been reading lately as well, but that little project will have to wait until Monkey Monday because I am all tired from playing in the garden for hours (take that, rosemary bush!) and filling up on delicious dinner (soft corn tacos with garlicky greens and refried beans, from Jack Bishop’s A Year In a Vegetarian Kitchen). The weekend is certainly off to a good start. But I digress. (more…)

Penne with Asparagus and Lemon (recipe and ramble, all mixed up) 10 April 2007 3:02 pm
Posted by Tracy in : cheese, cooking, eating, friends, people, pictures, recipes, seasonality, vegan, vegetarian , 3 commentsThe title of this entry comes from Moosewood Restaurant New Classics (yes, it’s my very favorite cookbook) but today my inspiration for lunch came not from Moosewood’s recipe but rather a dish Penny ate at The LocoMotive years ago, and the fact that our housemate the history librarian left most of a bunch of asparagus unattended in the fridge for longer than a day. I know I was bragging about my ability to resist the not-quite-seasonal imported spring veggies just yesterday, but it turns out I am weak after all. Go figure. (more…)
