Forgot to post! Have a pancake picture distraction:

Pancakes, cropped.

Those are coconut-banana buttermilk pancakes, in case you were wondering, inspired by a Morning Glory breakfast special from a while back. It’s also a reminder to me: post that recipe already. (more…)

Adventures in drinking: Tracy versus Tongba 13 November 2008 12:49 pm

When my friend Matthew heard that I was going to Nepal, he told me, “You’ve got to try millet beer.” During our trek, we were strongly advised to drink only what our kitchen crew had boiled for us, or bottled beverages — nothing locally brewed, no matter how fresh. But once we got back to Kathmandu…

For Matthew.   Closeup on the tongba.

Final score: Tracy 1, Tongba many. Here’s what I wrote in my journal entry on 2 November 2007, in Kathmandu, illustrated with photos by me and my brother Piett. (more…)

Ask TracyFood: about my granola 9 September 2008 10:10 am

So a few weeks ago, I got an email:

Hi, Tracy.

I heard that Padnah’s Pit BBQ is now serving Tracy’s Granola.

First, is this your granola?

If so, is it gluten free? (i.e. no wheat products, rye or barley … and are the oats from a dedicated, wheat-free source, such as Bob’s Red Mill?)

Many of us are gluten intolerant or have full-blown Celiac disease, and most granola uses oats that share process facilities with wheat flour manufacturing, so every grain of oats has a small amount of flour on it, making it dangerous.

If you’re the one making this granola people are raving about and you have not been processing it with gluten free ingredients, your market would increase HUGELY if you began doing so and labeled the packaging with “GLUTEN FREE”.

I appreciate your time and hope to hear from you …. I miss granola!

Sincerely,

Carolyn

I started writing these on Friday, for extra bonus alliteration points, when I discovered that our toaster oven does not work unless it is plugged in (I know, I know, dur-hurrrrr, but in these exciting times I’m not exactly the swiftest). Then I got distracted (no big surprise). Whatever. The toaster oven was unplugged because Peter installed shiny new GFCI outlets in the kitchen, thus satisfying (more…)

I’m posting this super-late on Tuesday, the day of my last Morning Glory paycheck. Last Wednesday was my last day at work, and it was a good one, and I don’t really know what else to say about it. Instead, I will try to write about my time at the cafĂ© in more general (and even more glowing) terms…. but not today. (more…)
