Monkey Monday: random RSS recipes edition 21 July 2008 6:15 am
Posted by Tracy in : meat, random, monkeys, recipes, people, cooking , add a commentI remembered what else I meant to post about on Saturday night! The wonderful randomness that my RSS feeds bring me, let me share them with you!
First, there was Warren Ellis on cooking steak (hint: “Man cook meat with fire.”) That was July 7. A day later, he clarified his position somewhat: (more…)
I’m having some kind of food geek peak experience right now… 25 June 2008 8:57 pm
Posted by Tracy in : geekery, monkeys, books, cooking , add a comment…if you’d like to share it with me, go check out Time magazine’s writeup of Harold “On Food and Cooking” McGee in their special 2008 Time 100 “most influential people” issue. Here it is, in all its glory, by no less a food geek than Mr. Alton Brown himself. I cannot make this stuff up, nor would I want to. (I got the good news from Michael Ruhlman’s blog, this post here.) Instead, I will just do a happy little monkey-geek dance. Next up I will do a happy hungry monkey dance for whatever it is Peter’s making in the kitchen, because my tummy is rumbly and it smells like awesome. Here’s hoping you read this post in circumstances at least as happy as the ones in which it was written. Cheers!
Monkey Monday: coming up for air edition 2 June 2008 7:46 pm
Posted by Tracy in : travel, family, monkeys, meta, friends, restaurants , 1 comment so farHelloooo readers! Sorry about dropping off the face of the intertubes last week; my parents were visiting from out of town until Tuesday, and I ran out of almost-finished entries to post well before that, and then on Thursday I went to a wedding in Texas, from which I am still recuperating. So. Much. Tracy. Kryptonite. I did, however, quite enjoy the Catfish Plantation of “picture-perfect” Waxahachie, Texas — you’d better believe I’m going to hunt down the relevant King of the Hill episode, oh yes indeedy.
In other news, I’ve finally sucked it up and created a Facebook account with which to get/keep in touch with people, especially East Coast and in particular New York City types since, y’know, we’re headed out there in, oh, ABOUT EIGHT FREAKING WEEKS (but no stress or anything, really, it’s just I hear there’s a bridge in Brooklyn for sale, too). So. Facebook. I’m guessing I won’t be too hard to find there, and if nothing else it’ll be yet another way for me to notify folks about new TracyFood posts. (more…)
Monkey Monday: goodbye, red cutting board. 5 May 2008 11:53 pm
Posted by Tracy in : consumerism, food safety, monkeys, pictures, meta, kitchen gear, cooking , add a commentSo this post is late because every time I started writing anything all weekend Monday it turned into paragraphs of whining about how I’m not writing very well lately, and I had this stupid head cold, and blah blah blah blah blah. Turns out I can still write picture captions, though, though, so I’m going to make a lot of image-heavy posts while I hope that words and I come back to an understanding in the not too distant future (like so I can write a bunch of emails before my trip out to New York starting Friday — eep!) Anyway.
The week of pictures begins on a weirdly sad note: last week we discovered big freaky cracks in the red cutting board featured so prominently in many a Flickr picture tagged “tracyfood”:
Chock full of randomness! 29 April 2008 7:16 am
Posted by Tracy in : news, monkeys, school, dessert, meta, cooking , add a commentSo first and foremost, it’s Free Cone Day at participating Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shops (vegans, I know they have sorbet but I don’t know if their nondairy options are fully free of kingdom Fauna ingredients, sorry). You can locate a participating shop here… and there’s one within easy walking distance of my house, aw yeah. (Like, yesterday I got off the bus a few stops early there to do my grocery shopping and carry it home easy walking. Oh yes. Free deliciousness will be mine.)
In other news, (more…)
