While I’m mentioning the bad news first: I’m not revealing travel plans for any international adventures today, and there are sadly still no guitars. Instead, I want to share a few useful morsels of information brought to me by my friendly local Internet (also yours!)
First, the post that gave me the idea for this entry’s theme: A Public Service Announcement From Your Body by Peggy Nature, brought to my attention by the ever-awesome Kate Harding’s Shapely Prose. (more…)

When you’re doing the dishes and part of the faucet breaks off in your hand and you get shot in the chest with a big jet of water. And yes, I am speaking from personal experience. This was yesterday morning, and I barely had the presence of mind to turn off the water after yelping my surprise such that Peter came flying in from the other room to my rescue (not that there was anything he could do except say “Whoa” at the broken thing). I spent the next half hour or so sort of blinking and changing out of many soaked layers of clothing. Then we went to the hardware store for a new faucet, because although the old one was under warranty, I didn’t have a receipt or proof of purchase or anything, so alas. (We kept the paperwork for the new one just in case, you betcha.) So today I’m still feeling like an amateur plumbing badass, because while Peter took the old faucet apart, I did most of the installation of the new one, because I fit under the sink better. Yay competence! (more…)

Long story short, it’s a fun list of questions for participants in Isa Chandra’s Vegan MoFo project, a delicious answer to National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo, for those of you who have never succumbed to its temptations). I think the object of the game was for everybody playing along to write a lot about delicious vegan food, but I sort of missed it because I was fresh back from Nepal and there was way too much internet-based excitement to catch up on. Also I’m not vegan. But I still thought this survey was fun. These are my answers from Tuesday evening at around 6 PM, but I’m not posting them until Wednesday morning because I’m a fickle beast like that. (more…)
Kitchen misadventure comics, especially for Chiara. 11 December 2007 8:16 am
Posted by Tracy in : cooking, friends, funny, kitchen mishaps , 2 commentsOur story begins last week, when Erika Moen posted this adorable comic about her cooking anxiety (click on the image to go to the full comic on Erika’s pages, which I highly recommend exploring):
and I posted a happy fangirl comment to say that it was the most awesome thing I had seen online in days, and that I wanted to staple a copy to my graduate school applications to give just a little example of how I’m fascinated by stories of how people learn to cook and why. (more…)

Dear FoodTracy,
I loved learning from all the stupid mistakes you wrote about on Monday! Do you have any more hilarious tales of food-related foolishness?
I would have a fantastic answer this week, oh yes. It goes something like this: (more…)
