Laughter is good Tracy food, and the blog Stuff White People Like makes me laugh. Have you seen it? It’s completely brilliant, as long as you don’t read the comments (don’t say I didn’t warn you). Here are a few samples I picked for their relevance to TracyFood:
#36 Breakfast Places (I swear I’m printing this one out for Morning Glory).
#54 Kitchen Gadgets
That last one, of course, hits especially close to home. (more…)
Vegan MoFo Survey! 12 December 2007 9:05 am
Posted by Tracy in : chocolate, nepal, kitchen mishaps, pictures, kitchen gear, friends, eating, vegan, cooking , 2 commentsI learned about this game from Penny, who learned about it from the Post-Punk Kitchen blog (see Isa’s answers here) but the original blog post that got this game started is here. Long story short, it’s a fun list of questions for participants in Isa Chandra’s Vegan MoFo project, a delicious answer to National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo, for those of you who have never succumbed to its temptations). I think the object of the game was for everybody playing along to write a lot about delicious vegan food, but I sort of missed it because I was fresh back from Nepal and there was way too much internet-based excitement to catch up on. Also I’m not vegan. But I still thought this survey was fun. These are my answers from Tuesday evening at around 6 PM, but I’m not posting them until Wednesday morning because I’m a fickle beast like that. (more…)
How to cook a giant mystery squash (only very arguably a recipe) 23 August 2007 11:29 pm
Posted by Tracy in : garden, local food, summer, pictures, kitchen gear, eating, eugene, recipes, cooking , add a commentStep one is to make a silly blog post about a ridiculous stray squash that followed your partner home from a pile marked “FREE” by the side of the road somewhere, no joke. (And now I will stop saying “you” when I mean “me” because it’s confusing as heck to write and I’m up past my bedtime after a long day that involved bringing my mom to work, also no joke, but I may write about it eventually.) Moosewood Restaurant New Classics 16 August 2007 3:44 pm

There. I’ve said it. So if you know and do not love this cookbook, or if your brain is too full of preconceived notions about vegetarian food to even consider the fact that there might be all kinds of good reading and learning in a cookbook about it (along with a few fish recipes, which I know are not vegetarian but which have confused many a reader of the Moosewood oeuvre), you might want to skip reading this review. But it’ll be your loss. I love this cookbook, and it taught me how to make granola, so there. (more…)
Chocolate sorbet: recipe and rememberings 9 August 2007 10:28 pm
Posted by Tracy in : seasonality, vegan, kitchen gear, summer, chocolate, sorbet, dessert, friends, eating, vegetarian, recipes, cooking , 4 commentsMmm, chocolate. Is there anything it can’t do? Well, for a time, I thought it couldn’t be refreshing, because a big part of what makes chocolate so awesome is the fat. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! It’s just a little heavy, say on a hot summer day. But then I learned about chocolate sorbet, and life got just that much more beautiful. Sorbet is awesome year-round, of course, but it’s perhaps the perfect dessert for the hottest days of summer, when it’s too hot for even ice cream (even the vegan kinds). So chocolate sorbet? A big winner all around, I tell you what. And now for a little flashback to my first experience with this fabulous dessert. (more…)
