It’s adapted from a recipe that came with our current bread machine, the Breadman Ultimate I learned to stop worrying and love, pictured here with the bread ingredients, on our kitchen counter:

A bit crowded on the counter, yes.
Breadman Ultimate, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Machine 3 September 2009 12:29 pm
Posted by Tracy in : baking, breakfast, consumerism, convenience, cooking, eating, friends, kitchen gear, pictures, recipes, thank you Thursday , add a commentSo last week I posted a picture of some tomato sandwiches on homemade bread, and realized that there was more to their story. You see, that wasn’t just any homemade bread, but the fruit — I mean, product — of our bread machine, the Breadman Ultimate of this post’s title.
Breadman Ultimate is actually our second bread machine; its predecessor was not just our first bread machine but also the first in a series of appliances we’ve worn out through overuse — which you’ve got to admit is kind of badass awesome. That first bread machine was, no joke, Betty Crocker brand, I believe from a Fry’s Electronics in southern California. It was also the source of some controversy. (more…)
Recipe: French Toast Waffles. 2 September 2009 7:51 pm
Posted by Tracy in : breakfast, cooking, dessert, friends, kitchen gear,Morning Glory, pictures, recipes, vegetarian , 6 commentsSo Morning Glory ran French toast waffles as a special back in March 2008, but I didn’t make them at home until last month, and I’m not sure Peter has forgiven my holding out on him for so long. That’s the bad news. The good news is, now the cat is out of the bag, and since this breakfasty treat combines great features of two favorites, I think we’ll be eating it a lot from now on. Behold:
I mean, you’ve got to admit those are pretty gorgeous. (more…)
Monkey Monday: belated Thursday thanks. 18 May 2009 2:01 pm
Posted by Tracy in : cooking, good news, health, kitchen gear,Marion Nestle, monkeys, nutrition, school, sustainability, thank you Thursday , 1 comment so farSo first of all: thanks for being over, spring semester! I am getting way too old and cranky to stay up like I did last Wednesday night/Thursday morning to finish my vitamin C paper, but I did get it done, even if I forgot to cite any of Dr. Nestle‘s books in it (sigh). The fortification chapter of Food Politics would’ve been particularly appropriate for examples of how ascorbic acid is a great way to give junk food a health aura — and on top of that, it’s a preservative! Double whammy! On the other hand, I came in at exactly the 10-page limit (after severely truncating my Works Consulted section, which is where all of Dr. Nestle’s books should’ve gone if I’d had the pages), and I’d lost enough sleep without shoehorning in yet another chunk of information. So I’m going to hope everything’s all for the best.
Next, one more item related to the vitamin C paper: big thanks to Andrew for pointing me at a very recent study about vitamin supplements and exercise. So perfect for the “discuss a current paper about your nutrient” requirement!
Let’s see, what else? (more…)
Foto Friday: showing off a Wednesday dinner. 3 April 2009 8:43 pm
Posted by Tracy in : cooking, events, friends, kitchen gear, nyc, pictures , add a commentSo I think I’ve mentioned Wednesday night dinners at Greg’s place in passing on this blog, and here’s some pictures from one of those dinners just to pique your curiosity (and show off) a bit more:
Go go gadget KitchenAid! I could watch that all day, I really could. Next time maybe I’ll take a video. But what, you ask, is it kneading dough for? I’m so glad you asked. (more…)
