Friday FAIL: in which I am a lousy 1930s spouse. 6 June 2008 4:33 pm
Posted by Tracy in : silly, random, weird, feminism, friends , 2 commentsFirst, I know no one is surprised. Second, I swear this is almost relevant: there’s lots of questions about food and eating. Finally, full disclosure: I left blank all the questions about wife and/or husband treatment, as I have neither. I should maybe go back and pretend all those questions say “partner” but honestly, I think I’ve wasted enough time on this already.

Cj, this is all your fault. Thanks for an enjoyable little diversion!

Posted by Tracy in : nepal, travel, feminism, pictures, meta , 1 comment so farSo to quote the late, great Bill Hicks, “Boy, I’m in a mood.” What’s more, if you follow my Flickr photostream, you may have noticed that it’s sort of dried up on the Nepal trip front. There’s a reason for that, and today I am harnessing the power of my mood to confront it. If you’ve come to TracyFood for sunshine and happiness, I’m afraid today is not your day. Tomorrow I’ll be all lighthearted and liveblogging America’s Test Kitchen, but (more…)
Quick link: “Is Feminism Compatible With the Kitchen?” 26 February 2008 2:07 pm
Posted by Tracy in : consumerism, politics, feminism, cooking , 2 commentsThat’s seriously the headline on this article about women cooking (or not) that ran on Alternet a week ago. It is still making my head spin, and now I am sharing it (and my bewilderment) with you, dear readers. To be fair, the article mostly doesn’t agree with media stereotypes of (probably white and at least middle if not upper-class) professional/career-oriented women who prefer shopping to cooking, but I mean, really. What the crap? I have been trying to compose a response to this piece for about a week, but so far I haven’t come up with anything coherent. A few more thoughts: (more…)
In case you missed it: New York magazine on female chefs and more (including Janeane Garofalo, aw yeah). 19 November 2007 2:06 pm
Posted by Tracy in : feminism, vegetarianism, work, Morning Glory, restaurants, news, interviews , 1 comment so farWoo! Two posts in one day! I’m out of control! (Although actually, this is just a cunning ploy to make up for having missed last Wednesday’s post, and as soon as you’re not looking I’ll sneakily change the date on this entry to make it look like I’m not a flaky slackerbeast, but I digress. Anyway.)
For some reason, none of the food blogs on my long-neglected Google Reader mentioned New York magazine’s October 21 piece on the city’s few female top chefs, “A Woman’s Place?”; I read about it on Salon’s Broadsheet. But whatever; I’m just glad I found it. Food (especially cooking) and gender? I accept! (more…)
Monkey Monday: rare woman edition 13 August 2007 8:26 am
Posted by Tracy in : politics, monkeys, meat, feminism, news, meta, vegetarian, vegan, eating , add a commentSo looking back on last week’s entries, I’ve realized it was Revelations Week at TracyFood, from the subtitle on Monkey Monday (Ratatouille and other revelations) all the way through to the garden mystery I solved in pictures on Foto Friday. Okay, the Dilly Beans in the middle might be a bit of a stretch to fit the theme, but it feels like a revelation every time I tweak a cookbook recipe to fit my own weird particular tastes, so let’s count that one as a little victory, all right? Likewise, if you don’t think chocolate sorbet is a revelation, then you’re either a milk chocolate fanatic or I don’t understand you for some other reason. (Seriously, though, chocolate sorbet is amazing. The “frozen dessert melting in your mouth” sensation fills in for whatever fatty goodness you might be missing, and did I mention that it’s really good with fruit? I think I did.) (more…)
