Monkey Monday: back to the regular TracyFood schedule edition 12 November 2007 9:54 am

So I thought today I would make a list of possible topics to write about, including stuff I put on hold because I was going on this crazy trip, and also maybe mix in some random stuff I saw on the InterGoogleTubes that were so TracyFood I was glad not to have missed them this past month. So. Here I go. (As always, if you’re reading this and want to hear more about any of it, that’s what comments are for, and they are much appreciated.) (more…)

That said, hey! I’m home from Asia, and it is awesome like my trip was awesome. Yay for that! Those of you who have received postcards so far know that I don’t exactly string together the most coherent of sentences these days, in part because my brain is SO VERY FULL of trip amazingness and I don’t really know where to begin writing about any of it. I have a few ideas, but for now I’ll start with pictures, because so far composing photo captions has been a nice sound-byte-y way to ease myself back into writing for Teh IntarGoogle every day, and that’s good. So is the fact that I am almost sort of caught up on laundry, and that in a fit of major cleverness yesterday I went food shopping at my friendly local Asian supermarket instead of freaking myself out with something more well-lit and mainstream U.S.-ian, and that was pretty perfect — lots of stuff I couldn’t read but wanted to eat anyway, not unlike Bangkok. But I digress. Pictures! (more…)
Nepal Trip 2007: Bangkok Day 2 and HOME! 6 November 2007 8:33 am
Posted by Tracy in : bangkok, eugene, nepal, travel , add a commentMy entire goal for today is to get home. I know, it’s a whole other day in a fantastic Asian city, but I also know myself a little, and after a month away from home, I start to get really antsy for it, and I fully expect that this trip will be no different. Here is my plan. (more…)
Nepal Trip 2007: Bangkok, Day 1 5 November 2007 8:28 am
Posted by Tracy in : bangkok, nepal, travel , add a commentMy entire goal for this day in Bangkok is to see the floating market. Gondolas full of Thai food — need I say more? I am obsessed. There will probably be museums or some such, but really, I am in Thailand for the food. Bring the deliciousness, I say! Bring it on!

This post was written and scheduled for automagical posting in the week before I left on this crazy adventure. I hope to write many more posts about the trip — you know, with more actual details and pictures and stuff — but for now this is all we’ve got while my intergoogle access is all kinds of sporadic during my travels from October 9 until November 6.
Nepal Trip 2007: Travel Day 2: Bangkok-Kathmandu 11 October 2007 9:17 am
Posted by Tracy in : bangkok, nepal, travel , add a commentYou know what’s sort of heartbreaking, really? The fact that today’s stopover in Bangkok is only four freaking hours long. There’s a floating market out there: gondolas full of real Thai food. Heck, there’s a whole country full of real Thai food! I am so curious how it’s different from the stuff that gets served in Thai restaurants in the U.S. — but I will have to contain my curiosity for more than three weeks (we have a more real stop in Bangkok on the way back, albeit a 48-hour surgical strike). Anyway. Today’s excitement begins with four hours in the Bangkok airport (do I even have to clear customs?), meeting up with the rest of our party, and then flying on to Kathmandu, where we’re staying at the Hotel Utse and possibly wandering around the city a bit in our first efforts to acclimatize to the time and altitude changes. The hotel is very Tibetan, and I’ll try to keep that in mind so I can compare its food and accommodations to more Nepali-style hospitality.
