Monkey Monday: real monkeys and more! 19 April 2010 11:07 am
Posted by Tracy in : events, fun, funny, health at every size, media, meta, monkeys, news, random, video , trackbackFirst things first, I know this doesn’t really have anything to do with food but it makes me incredibly happy so I’m posting it wherever I can:
If you like that, you will also like this (it’s really quick, I promise!)
And now, for something less completely different.
Somebody needs to send Peggy Orenstein a bunch of Ellyn Satter books right quick, and I say that without having read any of Child of Mine: Feeding With Love and Good Sense, How to Get Your Kid to Eat: But Not Too Much, Secrets of Feeding a Healthy Family or even Your Child’s Weight: Helping without Harming, but oh lady I love all those titles SO HARD and Michelle says they’re awesome and I have yet to do anything but continually gain respect for her expertise in all topics Health At Every Size, yay!
Speaking of Health At Every Size and New York Times articles that made me yell at my computer about that subject, I’d like to take this opportunity to point out that the so-called Hunger-Obesity Paradox? Isn’t actually a paradox, it’s fricken POVERTY. Gah.
On a lighter note, I wish, wish, WISH I had seen this book cover while I was writing my microwave popcorn paper, but it was still pretty fantastic to see right afterwards.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, New York Times reviewer Jeanne Catsoulis coined the phrase “what’s-the-matter-with-corn-syrup” to describe food documentaries like Food, Inc. and the more recent (and in my opinon way better) Fresh (two word summary of why it’s so much better: Will “Growing Power” Allen, who is at least ten billion kinds of awesome, you guys.) Needless to say, I hope her wording catches on and spreads far and wide.
For the rest, I am going to post this now before I start trying to edit or improve it or whatever, because it has been far too long since my last entry. Here’s hoping I can be organized enough this week to write about last week’s National Good Food Network webinar “Building Regional Food Systems, Part 1,” and Cook’s Illustrated‘s lemon Bundt cake for Ansley and Carrie.
