Foto Friday: Happy 2010 edition! 1 January 2010 11:54 pm
Posted by Tracy in : breakfast, friends, nyc, oregon, photos, pictures, random , trackbackHappy 2010, readers! I ended 2009 at my graduate schoolmate Ansley’s apartment, partying down with delicious brunchy treats:

Cornmeal waffles, which would later be garnished with Ansley’s awesome maple compound butter. I supplied the waffle iron, and have no idea what’s going on with my hair there.

Here, Ansley is rocking waffles in one hand and deep-frying potato croquettes in the other. Clearly, she is a woman after my own heart.
and funny hats:

Dignity, always dignity. Also, tiaras cover up whatever my hair was doing in that first picture! Yay!

Tobias the Schnauzer says “Fine, I’ll wear the hat, but can I have some of those buckwheat crèpes now?” Later, he would entertain us all greatly with antics involving a spherical ice cube.
So that was pretty awesome, and then Peter and I went home to bed like the boring old people it turns out we really enjoy being. Yay! This morning (ok, just after noon) we had French toast waffles for brunch, then we went for a lovely walk that ended us up at the uptown Village Pourhouse where we watched the Oregon Ducks almost recover from a miserable first half of the 2010 Rose Bowl only to fall back apart in the last quarter. Sigh. But there were tasty bar snacks! And then I came home and applied myself to the blackeyed peas I had (kinda sorta maybe over)cooked the afternoon before. Results: vegan Hoppin’ John with collard greens (not yet pictured, because not yet eaten) and an even more extremely TracyFood interpretation of one traditional New Year’s Day meal:
That’s collard greens prepared saag-style (mustard seeds, garlic, and ginger), plus rice with peas and blackeyed peas with mushrooms from my beloved copy of Madhur Jaffrey’s Indian Cooking. So delicious! Here’s to much more tasty cooking and eating in 2010.

This last-minute Foto Friday is dedicated to Ms. Leena the Eater, who made me all hungry and envious by Twittering about her New Year gastro-culinary awesomeness. Thanks for the motivation and inspiration, lady!
