If you made it through all nigh-1500 words of yesterday’s post, thank you and congratulations. (Everybody else, go ahead and just scroll through to the end to see what I’m writing about today.) Remember that dinner I mentioned in the last paragraph? Okay, I mentioned a lot of meals there, but only one of them made it into pictures:

A nice quiet Sunday dinner.
“…the cherry tomatoes lasted until Sunday’s light supper of raw veggies, cheese, and crackers.”

Aren’t those tomatoes gorgeous? Their color is so fantastic that I actually had to look at the picture twice to make sure it was the right one, that those weren’t olives.

And speaking of tomatoes, these are neither of the late lunches also mentioned in the last paragraph of yesterday’s post, but they’ll have to do as some kinda proof of concept, okay?

Tomato sammich.
Tomato sammiches, one of summer’s most perfect foods.

And now for something not entirely completely different: One of my all-time favorite lines of children’s literature that made me cry when I finally first read it about fifteen years too late is Harriet the Spy‘s “When I look at him I could eat a thousand tomato sandwiches.”

Finally, here’s yet another link to the Amazon page for that Madhur Jaffrey book I’m always raving about, and here’s the recipe for the hummus I mentioned in that last paragraph. It occurs to me that both of today’s pictures contain fodder for future posts: the bread in the sandwiches, and the Russian dressing. Eeeeeexcellent….

Hmmmm I think the link is broken. But, I did just buy two Jaffrey books recently for http://coraa.livejournal.com/312423.html that I joined! I’m looking forward (with some trepidation since I have never cooked Indian before) to making the recipes!

Hi Jeannie! Thanks for the heads-up about my broken link! It’s fixed now. Your cooking group looks like fun!
