So I think it might be Fangirl Week here at TracyFood, in case yesterday’s little gush-fest didn’t make that abundantly clear (the David Byrne concert was ten thousand million billion kinds of awesome, by the way, and everybody who didn’t make it is hereby invited to envy me some more). Today I would like to celebrate some awesome food-related webcomics, both old and new. Here we go!

* * * * *

Ryan North’s Dinosaur Comics make me so happy, youse all. For instance, here’s what happens when T-Rex thinks about counting calories. I’ll give you a hint: it’s why I Tweeted: “‘Are the sum total of my accomplishments today greater than a slightly heated giant bathtub?’ #sigh #dangitryannorth #dinocomics” T-Rex obsessing about his diet is nothing new, of course but it always makes me happy. Happy like favorite foods make me happy! Yay! And finally, here’s T-Rex on food and manliness. A nerdy comic strip that hits the food-gender-dinosaurs trifecta? Of course I love it!

* * * * *

Next up, on Daisy Owl, the ongoing saga of a bear and a cheese shop, which is kind of like a bull in a china shop except for how it’s different. Also from Daisy Owl: Most problems in life can be solved with a delicious pie. True!

* * * * *

I’ve mentioned James Kochalka’s American Elf diary comics on this blog once or twice in the past, but here’s a few more favorites: Grocery list as quality-of-life indicator. Volcano of food! Consider the potato chip (that last is especially excellent in light of the previous T-Rex meditation on the same subject).

* * * * *

I’m a relative latecomer to Achewood fandom, and it was actually Salon’s coverage of Chris Onstad’s Achewood cookbook that convinced me to join the strip’s well-deserved cult of popularity. Not long after that, I read the Ray Smuckles Roast Beef interview containing the line, “Of course I like to cook! Next question.” Some other favorite Achewood food strips: Real Kitchens 101 With Lyle Gabriel, YOU KNOW I GOT NO SENSE OF EGGS! and while I’m rocking the caps-lock key, FOOD CHAIN! GET USED TO IT!

* * * * *

That last line (Mr. Smuckles again) leads me naturally to Cat and Girl’s Steak House. Girl shares my pessimism about both diet soda and late capitalism, but I do not share her about sandwiches (because sandwiches are awesome, especially the spicy tofu bahn mi I found en route to the David Byrne concert last night — what, you thought I could resist gloating about that one more time?) I’ll end with Cat versus Chewing, since it brings us back to dinosaurs (and not even Bad Decision Dinosaur, for once).

Good night!
