Taco Tuesday! 12 May 2009 8:44 am

Those are vegetarian tacos from the Tacos Idolo(s?) truck that sometimes appears along Avenue of the Americas by the West 4th St./Washington Square subway stop. They contain refried beans, shredded lettuce and cabbage, tomato, avocado, crema (Mexican sour cream), and cotija cheese. Last time I got them, they cost $2.50 apiece, which is heck of cheap but kind of a bummer at the time because I only had five bucks on me and before the price went up I could get two tacos and still tip the guy.
Still, mmm, tacos. And yay having the option of ordering fillings like goat, tripe, and ear, even if I’m too wussy to try them. Reason #238593 for loving life in New York City is ready access to awesome street food. Nom nom nom.
And now, once again, I go back to work.

For instance, many of the situations described in Gus Rancatore’s “(Stupid) FAQ’s at the Ice Cream Shop” made me feel like I’d found a kindred spirit. (Regular readers may recall that I have a thing or two to say about the joys of customer service.)

Foto Friday: at long last, a hot mess. 8 May 2009 11:35 am
Posted by Tracy in : cooking, geekery, hot mess, meta, not even vegetarian, pictures, school , 3 commentsOof, readers. Happy May. You know how sometimes pushing back a deadline is both a blessing and a curse? That’s my theme for this month so far. I have an amazing talent for extending and expanding projects to fill all available time, and that superpower is in full effect this semester for sure. The good news is that all I have left for school is a ten-to-fourteen eight-to-ten-page paper about the history and politics of vitamin C (no, really) so no matter how you slice it, that means the end of the term is really, truly in sight. Of course, that will just free up more time to freak out about finding income with which to slow the growth of my Massive Student Loan Debt (TM). Augh.
But. Enough worrying! We are well into this new month, and I have lots of pictures to share, so welcome to Messy May. The name is to acknowledge that my posting schedule has gone from weekdaily to completely random, and also the fact that I will finally be writing about (and posting pictures of) things I have cooked which tasted much better than they looked.
