I started composing this Foto Friday post after the Monkey Monday following it was such a hot mess of a downer about the food politics of torture, but I’ve dated it to Friday so people can find it after scrolling past the bad news. After a story like that, it’s time for comfort cookies:

I know they're not very good, but I love them.

If you spotted the guilty secret about these cookies, give yourself a gold star for eagle eyes. Otherwise, read on for the terrible truth.

It’s true! Those are Entenmann’s Soft Baked chocolate chip cookies. I know, I know, they’re sort of aggressively okay at best, mostly just mediocre, and really, not very good. This box, purchased to share at a food studies department potluck back on March 10, is even the kind made with milk chocolate chips. And I scoff at milk chocolate under pretty much any circumstances (though I have been proved wrong from time to time, most recently by some fabulous Easter eggs Mom brought me from Holland). It was simultaneously delightful, yet embarrassing, to share them with my fellow students and some faculty. I mean, really. These are not very good. But I love them anyway.

What’s your secret food pride/shame?

Cj, I don’t even know what Munchos are, but now I want to make chocolate-chip cookie and cottage cheese sandwiches. Like ice cream sandwiches only with more protein, I guess? And now I will not rest until I’ve tried it. Gah! Stop it, brain!
