In which I am silly. 16 April 2009 11:15 am

Silly is an okay mood to be in right now, since I’m supposed to be writing the introduction to a research paper that doesn’t exist. It’s for my research methods class; I’m supposed to pretend like I’ve done all the background readings and interviews and participant observations and so on, and all that’s left is the writing, but it turns out it’s really hard for me to write when I haven’t done the research to figure out what to write about. And that’s all the whining I’m going to do on that subject, because this post should be a quick one, so I can get back to the writing that’s going sooooo wellll (not). Anyway.

I had a silly idea for a tattoo the other day, maybe Tuesday night, when I was concocting a hot mess of the spaghetti con ceci recipe that ran in New York magazine a few months back, using the fancy spaghetti and fabulous San Marzano tomatoes from last month’s field trip to Gustiamo. The resultant dinner, as suggested by the phrase “hot mess,” was not pretty, but tasted great. In fact, I am thinking about making a series of picture posts about various and sundry similar not-pretty-just-delicious meals, but that’s not actually all that silly. The tattoo idea, it is.

So: I was thinking I should have the word “NOM” somewhere on my body, and then I thought it would be cute to do a riff on the classic “MOM” heart tattoo — instead of a heart, I was thinking a big red apple. Because that’s so punk, that on a scale from one to ten, it doesn’t use the scale.

Told you it was silly. Now go enjoy that Eugene Mirman video for me, while I get back to trying to be a bit more responsible.
