A Thank You Thursday — and here’s to many more. 9 April 2009 9:38 pm

Thank You Thursdays are a regular feature over at Feministing, and this week I’m taking a page from their playbook to shout out to my awesome friends. Maybe it’s an early April thing with me, I don’t know, but you are all fabulous, each and every one of you. Anyway. Here are just a few recent specific examples of the awesomeness of my friends:

First of all, last Friday’s shout-out to Wednesday dinner is sort of an early entry in the “yay my friends rule” category, well worth a mention. We’re up to twelve straight weeks of collaborative gastronomic goodness, and counting — so awesome. Go team!

Next, I started this week’s Monkey Monday post on a bit of a down note, and Cj stepped right up to read things in a more positive light. Your optimism, lady, it is inspiring to me. Thank you.

That same day, Ellen tipped me off to Michael Pollan’s turn on NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me! show last weekend. That link goes to the page for the whole episode, but if you just want to hear Paula Poundstone make me laugh out loud, skip to the “Not My Job” segment a bit further down. “You may know a lot about food, but you don’t know the first thing about living, buddy!” So awesome. (Have I mentioned that I’m still kinda burned out on Pollan?) Thanks for the pointer, Ellen!

Finally, earlier today I handed in a report about interviewing a friend on Tuesday night. Any time I get to pseudonymize people with names like “Epicurius” and “Underhill” is okay by me. (And lest you think that’s being too silly for an academic paper, allow me to point out that all the code for my undergraduate thesis was named after characters in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.) Thanks for the interview and your cameo therein, Epicurius and Underhill! (Now I am very tempted to turn that report into an entry here. It’s been far too long since I posted an interview. They’re so fun! (Anybody reading this is hereby invited to contact me for the purposes of delicious geeky conversation towards my grand theory of culinary everything.)

Tonight, I raise my cup of tea to friendship and gratitude. Huzzah!

Thank you for the kind words; “stepping up” seems to be another one of those bad habits I picked up somewhere (why couldn’t I have just been a typical actress and taking up smoking?).

Your perseverance and commitment is admirable, and your consistency with Tracy Food offers a nice snack of inspiration on a very regular basis. It was a nice change to be able to tell the truth and have it correctly interpreted as positive. Usually the love I dish out is a little tougher.

My own peculiar philosophy is: you should never stint on encouragement. Everyone needs more than they get, and you specifically should be getting especially large helpings since you are trying to bake outside the box. But we (humanity at large) get so embroiled in our own individual concerns that we forget to say, “That’s cool! Do more of that!” Or, “Wow! You are doing something that makes me feel good!” So, with regards to both of those statements, keep on doing what you are doing because I know it makes at least one person very happy.
