Monkey Monday: another night at the library. 20 October 2008 10:07 pm

I’m about to go back to our Internet-less home and make myself a nice pot of tea in the hopes that it will inspire me to write at least another page of the paper due Wednesday, but first I wanted to note:

- Yay for fall! We’ve been having these beautiful crisp, clear days, and they actually confused me for a little while, because I’d been in Oregon too long and had almost forgotten that weather can be both clear and cold. As I commented to the fabulous Chiara this morning, “[T]his winter, at least, will not be 100% dark and grey! Freezing cold, maybe, but somehow I feel it less when I get more sun. Take that, seasonal affective tendencies! Woo!”

- Yay for finding Nepalese food in New York! Last week I enjoyed Tibetan Kitchen in Murray Hill, but it felt like I had missed my target. Today I stopped by the Himalayan Teahouse in Astoria, but they were closed, but I pressed on to Jackson Heights, where the Himalayan Yak’s vegetarian thali platter proved more food than I could eat. Yay! On my way there, I passed this crazy pan-South-Asian place advertising Tibetan, Nepalese, and Bhutanese food in addition to Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani:

Meril Farms

Whoa. That’s one for maybe some other time. Also in the “some other time” category is Sunnyside’s Yeti of Hieizan, which holds the distinct honor of being the only Japanese-Nepalese restaurant I’ve ever seen. Crazy!

- That said, I’d better get on writing that paper about my quest to find Nepalese food in NYC, especially now that it can have a full-belly happy ending.
