Phew! 2 July 2008 6:21 am
Posted by Tracy in : breakfast, cooking,Morning Glory, news, pictures, restaurants, work , trackbackOn my way out the door to an opening shift, I realized again that yesterday was a doozy (doozie? no, that’s definitely not spelled right). I got to Morning Glory a little late, so I didn’t really get any of my prep chores started before opening time, and at 7:30 (yes, AM) the phone rang, and I was within arm’s reach:
“Are you guys open yet?”
— “We’re open 7:30 to 3:30 every day.”
“So can I order some food to go?”
Okay, I thought, so that’s how it’s going to be. Of course, it was worth it when those guys tipped $15 on a ~$30 ticket, almost like they knew how ungodly early it was for us to be doing anything, let alone fairly well, if I do say so myself (despite the aforementioned earliness — I hadn’t even had coffee yet! — I had the presence of mind to 86 the moldy dill rolls and substitute the crowd-pleasing fresh-baked biscuits still hot out out of the oven). From then on I had tickets hanging until the closing shift started, fortunately at 9, and doubled up to boot: the new guy, Sam, is being trained by the unbelievably heroic Jen (yes, the Jen who’d left Morning Glory to start at the Culinary Institute for America a few months ago; it’s a long story). Finally, I could get to my freaking prep. When it was all done, and I was signing out, I realized, holy cats, it’s my last month at Morning Glory. At least it was off to a pretty good start.
Next up, more adventures, pertaining to the freakishly clean kitchen seen below:
and for the rest I can’t say much except: Keep some fingers crossed for me, readers. And now I gotta be a little late to work again, but I feel better for getting some of that off my mind.
