Monkey Monday: coming up for air edition 2 June 2008 7:46 pm

Helloooo readers! Sorry about dropping off the face of the intertubes last week; my parents were visiting from out of town until Tuesday, and I ran out of almost-finished entries to post well before that, and then on Thursday I went to a wedding in Texas, from which I am still recuperating. So. Much. Tracy. Kryptonite. I did, however, quite enjoy the Catfish Plantation of “picture-perfect” Waxahachie, Texas — you’d better believe I’m going to hunt down the relevant King of the Hill episode, oh yes indeedy.

In other news, I’ve finally sucked it up and created a Facebook account with which to get/keep in touch with people, especially East Coast and in particular New York City types since, y’know, we’re headed out there in, oh, ABOUT EIGHT FREAKING WEEKS (but no stress or anything, really, it’s just I hear there’s a bridge in Brooklyn for sale, too). So. Facebook. I’m guessing I won’t be too hard to find there, and if nothing else it’ll be yet another way for me to notify folks about new TracyFood posts. I am all about the valuable public services, yes I am.

Moving on, and back to the upcoming eight weeks of doom, later this week I’m hoping to post pictures of my attempts to make the kitchen here look realtor-friendly or at least realtor-compliant, since selling this place might actually make it possible for us to put deposits on some kind of living space in New York. (In case I haven’t mentioned it often enough, Peter’s going to be teaching at Manhattan College in the Bronx, I’m going to be at NYU, and ideally we’d split the distance between those two places and live in Central Park, but I’m guessing we wouldn’t be too welcome to pitch a tent there. Just a hunch.) Remember my spice collection? Well, it’s apparently way too full to be aesthetically pleasing to prospective house buyers and their realtor representatives, and I’m going to have to seriously empty it and all the other kitchen shelves not concealed behind cabinet doors… all while singing the doom song, I assure you.

Speaking of the doom song, I’ll be singing it with my brother and his girlfriend Jen later in the week. They’re coming out to visit and aid in my quest to get this place realtor-approved — not just by cleaning and painting, but also by eating from the contents of the aforementioned very full kitchen cabinets and shelves. Whee! Whenever possible, I’ll try to post recipes and pictures from the Iron Chef-style challenge of using up the ridiculous quantities of food I’ve amassed over the years of living here. Also, I’ll try to get ahead on short picture/link/whatever posts to put up when I’m too insane to write anything real.

Shame on you! Dropping off of the face of the earth just because parents are in town *grin*. I did miss your cheery posts. Good luck packing, shipping, cooking, good-bye-ing, and every and any thing else you and Herr Peter have to deal with before heading for the wormy apple (as my uncle calls it).

If you have to live in Central Park, see if you can rent the Castle

Though, it is probably pretty drafty in the winter. Where ever you end up, you will be happy: you have each other and a big lovely city to play street light stop and go in. I am not just green, but chartreuse with envy!
