Greetings from the Garden State, y’all! Um, I mean, youse. So far the trip has a daily average of meeting up with at least one awesome person I haven’t seen in over a year, and that trend is looking to continue well into the week, to which I say, “Right on!” Highlights so far are as follows (and wouldn’t you know, they’re all food-related):

On Saturday I got to experience The Bent Spoon of Princeton, NJ. I had crème fraiche gelato and rhubarb sorbet, and they were both fabulous. The gelato was like vanilla on steroids, only with a nice fresh tinge of tartness, and the sorbet was amazingly smooth and creamy, like I could easily have been fooled into believing it was sherbet, with cream added. Happy Sunday, all! Some of you (hi, Liz!) may remember this banana bread from this recipe here, which I posted sans illustrations because Liz asked nicely, just a few days before the announcement of Not Quite Nigella’s Banana Bread Bake-Off. Now, at long last, here’s the illustrated version I first alluded to more than a month ago. The finished product looks like this:

The taxi to the airport should be here in half an hour, so of course I’ve got a lot of last-minute running around to do, but where better to freak out than the Internet? I’ll be in Jersey tonight through Tuesday morning, then in NYC until Saturday freaky early. Next week’s posts will, of course, be all kinds of travel-sporadic, and I’ll be back to my usual schedule of missing Thursdays on Monday 19 May.

But to be fair, this picture is way better than anything I had planned to write about today, so there:

That’s the fabulous Chiara rocking the world with the power of minestrone… AND AWESOMENESS. You’d better believe that picture is one of my Flickr favorites now, oh yes. And now I must go to bed since I have to be at work in 7 hours. Whee!

(And, just to be perfectly clear, the above picture of Chiara LaRotonda appears without permission, courtesy of the lady’s Flickr photostream. I don’t know who took the picture or I’d give them credit by name, but all rights are still reserved by them and Chiara and oh, how I envy them that soup.)
