Subtitle: with pictures!

So Peter’s away at a big nerdy conference in Portland until tomorrow, and I’m home alone except I’ve been working a lot this week — which is great, because we need the money something fierce. But speaking of money, I really need to invent a good word for the weird but delicious mix of cheap and/or free stuff I’ve been eating for the past few days. It’s semi-freegan, 100% opportunivore, and 150% TracyFood. Anybody got any clever ideas? I’m very open to suggestions. But I digress. Let me tell you all about my thrift mode eating habits.

First and foremost there’s Morning Glory shift leftovers, of course: (more…)

It’s like Foto Friday only a day early this week, because apparently that’s just how I roll. Also, how did this get to be Picture Week without my noticing it until just now? I digress. So. Last year the fabulous Chiara asked me for (and I quote) “HARDCORE VOODOO LOVE RECIPES” and after a bit of dodging on Valentines’ Day I came through with Sexy Mac and Cheese, a recipe I have been using to seduce people ever since a cheese cooler failure at Sundance provided me with an opportunity to test both the offerings of Julia Moskin’s Macaroni and Lots of Cheese (the New York Times, 4 January 2006) and more besides (we ended up with four different kinds of mac ‘n cheese, including a “crunchy” hippie-friendly wheat-free version and its near-opposite, pre-made from a box with squeeze-on cheese sauce). ANYWAY. Here is a little photo essay of the various stages of that magical recipe. (more…)

You know you want them, especially now that Jen’s fabulous huevos rancheros are off the Morning Glory organic specials menu (I know I didn’t sell any chilaquiles at all last week, but they’ll probably go back to being their usual popular selves now).

Served!

Just a bit more Nepal nostalgia. 11 March 2008 8:13 am

So one public service announcement I meant to make yesterday is that I posted a few more Nepal trip pictures to my Flickr pages over the weekend. I kept going back to look at this one, so I decided to leave it in a prominent place for a few days (and now it’s here!)

I wish I lived closer to this kind of fast food.

I mean, wow do I wish I lived closer to this kind of fast food. (more…)

Happy Daylight Savings Hangover Monday to all my U.S. readers, and happy feeling our envy to everyone else. While I’m mentioning the bad news first: I’m not revealing travel plans for any international adventures today, and there are sadly still no guitars. Instead, I want to share a few useful morsels of information brought to me by my friendly local Internet (also yours!)

First, the post that gave me the idea for this entry’s theme: A Public Service Announcement From Your Body by Peggy Nature, brought to my attention by the ever-awesome Kate Harding’s Shapely Prose. (more…)
