When I think about all the reasons I’m not (a) vegan (full disclosure: I think I prefer it as an adjective rather than a noun), eggs and cheese always end up fighting for the top spot on the list. I love them both so much that I’m really not sure which one I love more. (And I love them together, like in omelets, fritattas, or even plain ol’ fried egg sandwiches, but I digress.) Nor am I alone in my love, and it makes me really happy that good cheese is important to so many people. The other day Allison and I were chatting about nothing in particular, and we both spontaneously and independently mentioned cheese as something we’d spend a lot more money on if we had room for it in our respective budgets. I also know a few people who consider cheese their secret guilty food pleasure, like despite being relatively not-neurotic about their diets cheese is the one thing they feel they eat too much of, or can’t quite be comfortable about liking so much, or they can’t quite consider themselves vegan because they eat cheese, just every now and then, sort of the way I consider myself not even vegetarian despite the fact that the vast majority of my meals qualify me for the label. Anyway, all these thoughts have me pondering the possibility of a regular cheese feature for TracyFood, “Cheese of the Month” or something like that. What say you, readers?
Another possibility (and of course there’s nothing saying I can’t do both) is a little series I’ve been thinking about calling “Cheesed Off,” about my adventures in the Sundance cheese department. Part of my job was discontinuing products, usually because they didn’t sell, but also sometimes just because I didn’t like them. It was so much fun that I started keeping trophies! No, really — every time I took a product off the shelves, I would pocket its pricetag, and by the time I quit there was a pretty big stack of them in my wallet. So that’s a whole other set of cheesy stories: the opposite of recommendations. Again, readers, if that sounds like something you want to know more about, let me know in the comments.

I LOVE CHEESE! :) Cheese Feature Please. :)
Behold the power of cheese! My kitchen cred may be pretty dismal (sadly, I hardly ever cook, though I’m working to change that), but I do have a nice little brick of gruyère in my fridge, and I’ve been crostini-ing my way through it all week.
So, cheese review feature, absolutely, but “Cheesed Off” sounds great too. Like a sitcom, or maybe a lost episode of Wallace & Gromit. (”We’ll go somewhere where there’s cheese!”)
I think this might be the first time I’ve commented here! With half an hour left to go in the office on a Friday, it’s a good time to read blogs :]
I like cheese…a lot. I like whatever you cheese (sic) to post about… a lot. It seems pretty much like a pretty good melt to me.
Cheese is… well, good cheese is a revelation. Bad cheese is painful, average cheese is just bland. Making paneer is fun and educational….
Of course, I live around the corner from a really awesome cheese shop, so I am very very spoiled (and rather poorer and fatter than I would be if I lived further away, I imagine). It’s nice being able to buy cheese from people who have visited most of the farms they buy cheeses from (well, the Eastern US ones).
So cheese is always welcome on my browser!
I’m really psyched about teese.
