Here’s a little photo series that was my original plan for last Friday’s post before world news ate my brain. It would’ve followed right after the relevant recipe post and everything, but here it finally is.

* * * * *

Split pea soup is fun and easy, so I decided it would be a good choice for my first ever shift training another cook at Sundance. Here’s the sign for what Tree and I came up with (yes, her name really is Tree, and as always, you can click on the picture for larger versions via Flickr):

Note the lack of coconut milk — a sad omission, yes indeed, but one I corrected when I made a huge version of Moosewood’s Curried Spinach-Pea Soup, signed like so:

Coconut Spinach-Pea Soup

As I mentioned in my recipe post about curried pea soup, the all-fresh-ingredients soup was delicious, but unprofitably so. Alas and boo, except that my cheaper version turned out a triumph, one I made so often the signs kept getting lost and found and so I made a lot of them:

Hurray! Finally, here are some pictures of my most recent batch of the thriftified soup:

Yum.
