RIP

I had to hunt through my Nepal photos a little, but I was happy to find a few from the school “Sir Ed” founded in Khumjung, a village in the Solukhumbu not far from Namche Bazaar:

Bust of Sir Edmund Hillary

Here’s a closeup on the plaque under the bust:

Click through to the Large or Original sizes for a readable version, or otherwise here’s a good article about Sir Ed and the Himalayan Trust and all that humanitarian goodness.

Oh, and remember Lukla airport, pictured below and in some truly fantastic YouTube videos?

Lukla airstrip in action.

That’s another Hillary/Himalaya Trust project. The airstrip wasn’t meant to be permanent originally, but it was built as a temporary facility (which explains its crazy steepness!), a way to get supplies into the Solukhumbu region for projects like schools and medical clinics like the Kunde Hospital:

And now I’m all weird and Nepal-flashbacky, but I should be back to normal after the weekend.
