I hope you are all enjoying the International Year of the Potato so far — I know I am, and not just because I finally finished Larry Zuckerman’s The Potato: How the humble spud saved the Western world. Oh no, I have many reasons. For instance, check out what the Gmail just dragged in!

Dear Tracy, We would like to invite you to join our group of shoppers and offer you a free year’s subscription in return. As a test kitchen shopper, you can expect to receive a few requests each month to check your local grocery store for ingredient availability, price, and selection. The requests will be accompanied by a short questionnaire about your findings. We ask that you accept this invitation only if you feel this is a commitment you can make. Please complete the accompanying survey... to accept or decline this invitation. Once again, thank you for your contribution! Sincerely, The Editors of Cook’s Illustrated
Okay, so you’re saying you’ll reward me for filling out Web surveys about what I see at the grocery store? Something I could do just by taking notes, not even pictures? Put me in the game, coach, I can do this! (Nerdvana!)
Also, it’s actually dry out for a change, so I just spent a glorious two hours mucking around with the giant pile of leaves in our driveway, which I am slowly but surely putting to work in the garden and compost pile, yay! AND in less than two hours I start my class for the term, Gender Issues in Nutritional Anthropology, and it all adds up to big geeky excitement here at the House of Infinite Monkeys, well worth quoting from Ulysses about, oh yes indeed.

That’s very cool! Well…The American Test Kitchen gig, I’m not so sure about mucking around with a big pile of leaves. Sorry I haven’t been as devoted a follower of All Things Tracy as I would like to have been the last few months, but the holidays this year were especially eventful…good, worthwhile, etc….but nuts. This certainly sounds like it is kickin’ 2008 off for you in a good way.
That is so awesome!!
