Recipe, sort of: Not Very French Onion Soup 15 November 2007 12:06 pm

Today on TracyFood, a little glimpse into the food geek brain at work, scanned directly from my notes on a soup I made at Morning Glory yesterday:

Too Vegan To Be French Onion Soup

Too Vegan to be French Onion Soup

As always, click on the picture to go to Flickr, where there are larger, more legible versions available. At some point I will attempt to translate these notes (more elaborate than my usual list of ingredients) into a more exact recipe, maybe even with pictures of the results, but this is all I’ve got for now. I tried and tried but no matter what I did (including repeatedly crash the Gimp image manipulation program), my scans always turned out blurry around the edges. Oh well. At least my handwriting scanned legibly (if a little weird because the notebook is awesome handmade Nepali paper, which is very delicate and so I write on it a bit more cautiously than usual, but I digress).

Page two of my notes:

Not Very French Onion Soup, continued.

I really wanted to use butter (or maybe a mix of olive oil and butter) instead of Earth Balance margarine, but Morning Glory soups are always vegan unless otherwise specified, and so I made a few little notes for a vegetarian but not vegan version. The cussing might seem a little gratuituous, but it’s a reference to an Everything2 piece that’s near and dear to my heart, so there. If this post isn’t verbose enough for you, check that last link out; it’s well worth the read. (Oh, and I hope to post something else later today, to make up for not posting anything yesterday; it’ll probably be dated November 14 just for added bonus confusion.)
