Nepal Trip 2007: Travel Day 2: Bangkok-Kathmandu 11 October 2007 9:17 am

You know what’s sort of heartbreaking, really? The fact that today’s stopover in Bangkok is only four freaking hours long. There’s a floating market out there: gondolas full of real Thai food. Heck, there’s a whole country full of real Thai food! I am so curious how it’s different from the stuff that gets served in Thai restaurants in the U.S. — but I will have to contain my curiosity for more than three weeks (we have a more real stop in Bangkok on the way back, albeit a 48-hour surgical strike). Anyway. Today’s excitement begins with four hours in the Bangkok airport (do I even have to clear customs?), meeting up with the rest of our party, and then flying on to Kathmandu, where we’re staying at the Hotel Utse and possibly wandering around the city a bit in our first efforts to acclimatize to the time and altitude changes. The hotel is very Tibetan, and I’ll try to keep that in mind so I can compare its food and accommodations to more Nepali-style hospitality.

This post was written and scheduled for automagical posting in the week before I left on this crazy adventure. I hope to write many more posts about the trip — you know, with more actual details and pictures and stuff — but for now this is all we’ve got while my intergoogle access is all kinds of sporadic during my travels from October 9 until November 6.
