But first, a little bit of nearly unrelated wackiness:

Dear Internet friends,

My GRE test prep software came in the mail and I need to borrow a Windows computer to use it. If you are in Eugene or know anyone in Eugene who might be willing to lend me such a device, please email me (tracyfood at gmail dot com) and I promise that my gratitude will be delicious. Thanks already.

Love,
-Tracy

And now, the aforementioned giant squash:

Holy giant squash, Batman!

As always, if the picture isn’t big enough for you, click on it for the appropriate Flickr page. Like it says on Flickr, that’s a decent-sized beefsteak-type tomato next to the big squash for scale, and to the tomato’s left a pretty heirloom squash from my parents’ CSA farm in NJ. And just for the record, I didn’t grow this monstrosity, although it is pretty much local food at its purest; Peter found it in a big pile of its kind by the side of the road next to a “FREE” sign, and could not resist its power. (He actually threatened me with it through a shower curtain in a hilariously Norman Bates kind of way, but that’s probably more than enough information for all of you.) Anyway, tune in tomorrow to read about the final fate of the giant squash (and little heirloom squash, and tomatoes, and probably some eggplant too). Hint: it’ll be a recipe.

P.S. Ask if my parents and I are keeping each other all kinds of busy! (Answer: oh hell yes.)
