Remember when Harold McGee inspired me to do a little olive oil taste test? (It’s okay if you don’t; that’s why I provided the link.) Long story short, between one of McGee’s New York Times “Curious Cook” columns and Alton Brown’s adorable usage of the abbreviation xv for extra-virgin olive oil, I was inspired to sip teaspoons of an excellent artisanal olive oil gifted to me by my parents courtesy of a grower they met in Italy, and a supermarket blend (Star brand, from Italy, Spain, Greece, and Tunisia, packaged in Spain).
