Posted by Tracy in : seasonality, politics, news, Marion Nestle, CSA, books , trackbackSummer is here, and that means lots of lying spread-eagled on the bed under the ceiling fan, and sometimes that means falling asleep at 9:30 PM when it’s still too hot to do anything but complain about it. I woke up at 11:30 PM, still hot, and decided against writing something at the last minute. But now of course, I feel guilty. So in case you desperately missed reading random stuff about food yesterday, here are some fun things I’ve recently been reading on the subject:
Farm to Table on Culinate is a nice little piece about community-supported agriculture, albeit with some silliness about kale. (I love kale! Stop talking trash about it!) I hope posting it here will remind me to write all about how much I love our CSA from Groundwork Organics.
Sustainable Food on Worldchanging is a good overview of, well, exactly what you’d think. What’s especially good about it is that Worldchanging’s definition of sustainability includes not just the environment and economics, but also social justice. Yay!
Don’t Point That Menu At My Child, Please is a New York Times article first forwarded to me by my mom, but all of you should read it, too, so you’ll know what it is I’m talking about when I expound at great length about it, perhaps later today or more probably tomorrow. It mentions the fantastic What To Eat by the even more fantastic Marion Nestle, and I know a chance to share parts of my favorite books when I see it, oh yes.
That last article and Convenience Food on Culinate should hopefully remind me to write at great length about food snobbery, a subject near and dear to my heart, oh yes. Always smile when you call me a food snob, dear readers, even if you’re saying that like it’s a bad thing and I’m only being a little sarcastic when I say I don’t know why.
