Foto Friday: more garden bragging 18 May 2007 10:56 pm
Posted by Tracy in : books, cooking,CSA,eating, garden, pictures , trackbackSo here’s a picture of the spinach I harvested on Wednesday and cooked Thursday with French lentils according to a recipe from Madhur Jaffrey’s Indian Cooking, which I have on loan from my friendly local public library and am enjoying very much. (I made the lentils-with-spinach dish for the first time last Friday and it was so good I made it again in the hopes of memorizing it. Tonight we had her black-eyed peas with mushrooms dish, and it was fabulous as well — too many more delicious dinners like this and I may need my own copy of this cookbook, oh yes.) But anyway, the homegrown spinach:
So awesome. And speaking of awesome, check out this action shot taken while riding my bike home from Urban Farm yesterday:
What’s that on the back, you may ask? I’m so glad you were curious!
Sunflowers from the Urban Farm! I’ve mentioned before that they grow like weeds over there, and in fact I’ve got some volunteers in my own garden this year as well, but I love them all the same. Yay sunflowers! I put these in around my shallots Brussels sprouts and artichokes and newly-transplanted maybe-they’re-cucumber starts. Also I planted marigolds. Yay marigolds! But those beauties are still a few months away. What I have to enjoy right now are garlic whistles:
and the first flowers on my peas:
and strawberries:
and irises:
and my whole beautiful garden which I love so very very much that I might actually use up my full Flickr upload capacity for the first time ever this month:
Finally, in case all that didn’t make you envy me at least a little, we’re getting our first CSA box of the season
from Groundwork Organics tomorrow. Yay! You can expect a full report on Monkey Monday, of course.
