A few more thoughts about Tracy granola. 12 April 2007 9:04 pm

Something I didn’t mention in my granola recipe post is that the granola it describes is not too sweet, and this is a good thing (Martha Stewart, eat your heart out). Not-too-sweet granola is especially good for eating with yogurt, which in case it wasn’t obvious, I highly recommend. When I eat storebought granola (very rarely, but I’ll admit this does happen from time to time) I’m always put off by the contrast between the sweetness of the granola and the tart sourness of the yogurt. It’s too much, and I almost always end up mixing in some honey so that the yogurt matches up to the granola a little better. But I’m not a big fan of super-sweet breakfasts; they’re kind of dangerous for me — I always get freaky hungry two or three hours later when my blood sugar drops, and a hungry Tracy is no fun to be (or to be around, I’m told). Tracy granola I can eat without adding any sweetener, and for that (and the oats and dried fruit and nuts and excuse to eat more yogurt, of course) I will love it forever. So there.

No, wait. Excuse me. I meant:

So it goes.

I have been trying all day to think of something foodish to say here about the late Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., but I got nothing. The official site is pretty good, as is Mitch Clem’s poster-style obituary. Also, my cardinal rule of “don’t be a jackass” is pretty close to the old man’s ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’ And, y’know, granola is one breakfast of champions.
