Fun Fact Friday (also: fotos!) 6 April 2007 6:43 pm

Two fun facts, phrased as questions:

  1. Did you know that arugula grows delicious flowers if given the chance to bolt all crazy-like? It’s true!
  2. Also, is Urban Farm the very best class ever? It just might be. My quest to join continues, but when I asked the prof about taking it summer term, she suggested that we could work around my missing the first two weeks because of the non-refundable plane tickets to Holland and all. So big yays for that!

And now, the fotos:

Mmmm, lunch.
Mmmm, cheese sandwich (on home-made whole-wheat no-knead bread, of course). But eek! What’s that on the right?

Eek! What's that?

Oh, that would be the only mildly scary mold growing on the delicious extra-sharp cheddar that contributed to my lunch the other day. Like any self-respecting former cheesemonger, I just cut those bits off and ate the rest of the cheese anyway. It’s perfectly all right to do this with cheese, kids. With moldy bread the spores and whatnot get through the whole loaf, but cheese is all dense and stuff so just trim off the nasty bits and maybe a quarter inch or so below to be on the safe side, and you’re fine. Like I’m going to let all that deliciousness go to waste? I think not.

Yay for new camera courtesy of Peter’s parents! More pictures, including the urban farm garden plots I worked on yesterday and my own home garden, on TracyFood @ Flickr (alas, there’s only a few of the home garden because the camera battery conked out on me). Happy weekend, all!

    Dear TracyFood,

I currently live life at an extremely hectic pace (2 jobs, 2 classes, and a job search for post-graduation employment). One of the results of this is that I eat a lot of junk. Do you have any suggestions for ways I could improve my eating habits yet not cut too much into my precious sleep time?

    XOXO,
    Ellen
