Hungry Tracy: Individual food logs 17 January 2007 8:36 am
Posted by Tracy in : cheese, eating, hungry planet, soup, tea , trackbackThis is really boring (and made me really self-conscious to write), so you’re completely excused from reading it. It’s all in one entry to make it easier to skip to something else.
Hungry Tracy? What’s that all about?
Monday
Breakfast: 3 slices homemade no-knead whole wheat bread, one with Kerrygold Blarney Castle cheese (2 oz? I dunno), one with ~1 TB Skippy Super Chunk peanut butter. Maybe three big mugs of tea, including the last of last night’s Earl Grey tea (we’re out! doom!) and Darjeeling. One mandarin orange.
Greedy/impulse morning snack: just one marzipan treat thingy. More tea.
Lunch: home fries with russet and Yukon Gold potatoes, onion, fresh parsley, “Essence of Sequim” dried herb blend, butter, olive oil, and Spanish Manchego cheese. Two small white cups of coffee, each with half and half and sugar.
One delicious Asian pear.
A handful of hazelnuts (maybe 1/4 cup?)
Red lentil soup with brown rice and yogurt. Mango Ceylon tea with a pinch of Darjeeling because there wasn’t quite enough of the weird fruity stuff (but now it’s finally all used up, yay!)
Tuesday
Leftover brown rice stir-fried with olive oil, a little mirin (sweet rice wine for cooking), soy sauce, Sriracha hot sauce, and an egg. The last of yesterday night’s Mango Ceylon tea, a new pot of Darjeeling. Also maybe a spoonful of last night’s red lentil soup while I was putting it away.
Two cups coffee, one with half & half and sugar, the other just with sugar. One marzipan ball, four or five kruidnoten (spice cookies).
Three pieces whole wheat no-knead bread with raw milk farmstead cheese from my grandparents’ neighbors’ family farm in the Netherlands.
One mandarin orange
Two more pieces whole wheat no-knead bread, this time with Skippy super chunk peanut butter. Also, many cups of Earl Grey Blue with milk and sugar and one oatmeal scone (yay tea with Allison!)
Leftovers: garlic mashed potatoes and red cabbage stewed with apples and cider vinegar and spices.
One more oatmeal scone and lots of Yorkshire Gold tea.
Wednesday
Three slices homemade whole-wheat no-knead bread, two with Kerrygold Blarney cheese, one with Skippy Super Chunk peanut butter. Many mugs of delicious Yorkshire Gold tea.
One delicious little carrot, one leaf lettuce (I was putting away this week’s CSA box and could not resist), leftover brown rice stir-fried with garlic, olive oil, sweet rice wine, green cabbage, shoyu and Sriracha hot sauce, jasmine tea.
One mandarin orange, more jasmine tea.
Salad: mixed greens, carrots, and celery with shallot vinaigrette. Red lentil curry (the leftover soup thickened up nicely) with coconut basmati rice and yogurt. Homemade vanilla ice cream.
Big mug nighty-night chamomile and other herb tea.
Thursday
Two eggs, fried in olive oil, and maybe four slices of homemade whole-wheat no-knead bread (I thought I was fueling up to go skiing, dammit — stupid weather). Big mugs of Earl Grey tea.
Yorkshire Gold tea, a small glass of orange juice (frozen from concentrate, extra pulp).
Some delicious dark chocolate.
Some pastry cream while working on Boston cream pie.
Leftover red lentil curry and coconut basmati rice.
Coffee with half and half and sugar.
Yorkshire Gold tea and two Marie biscuits.
Potato-parsnip gratin with shallots, fontina cheese, fresh rosemary and thyme, and lots of half and half.
A slice of homemade Boston cream pie! Yay adventure cooking! Also a delicious little glass of Bailey’s on the rocks.
Friday
Leftover potato-parsnip gratin. Yorkshire Gold tea.
Leftover coconut basmati rice stir-fried with spinach, garlic, curry powder, lime juice, and some of the egg whites leftover from yesterday’s baking (if this sounds weird, that’s because it was, especially as I used too much lime juice and it kind of dominated all the other flavors — but at least it made my belly safer for:)
Another slice of Boston cream pie (on an emptyish stomach this would totally be a recipe for major sugar freakout but oh it is so good).
Just a taste of the newest loaf of whole wheat no-knead bread.
Emergency food: a slice of apple, instant miso soup, salad with mixed greens, carrots, celery, pecorino romano cheese, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. More Yorkshire Gold Tea, two Marie biscuits.
One small carrot, two slices of whole wheat no-knead bread with a can of chunk light tuna in water, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and dill. Two kosher dill pickle sandwich slices.
One more slice of Boston cream pie, and a big mug of Celestial Seasonings english toffee herbal tea with a splash of milk.
(On Friday I remembered eating some salt and pepper Kettle chips earlier in the week, but not what day I’d eaten them, and noted that while I’m good at remembering meals, snacks are easy to overlook.)
Saturday
Yesterday’s leftover Yorkshire Gold tea mixed with a new pot of Earl Grey; three slices whole wheat no-knead bread with Dutch farmstead cheese and Skippy super chunk peanut butter. Two Marie biscuits.
Two small white cups coffee with sugar; the last of the delicious, delicious Boston cream pie.
The last of the red cabbage stewed with apples, cider vinegar, and spices.
Two squares dark chocolate; jasmine tea.
Noodles (udon) with mirin (and peas and wasbi and shoyu; recipe from Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home)
Sunday
Jasmine tea; a handful of hazelnuts.
More jasmine tea, three slices of whole-wheat no-knead bread, two with cheese, one with Skippy.
Yorkshire Gold tea and buckwheat crèpes, one with aged goat Gouda, the rest with honey and/or lemon juice and honey (yum). Also almost a pint of orange juice (from frozen concentrate, with extra pulp).
Collard greens sautéed with garlic in butter.
Delicious, delicious latkes made with Yukon Gold potatoes and shallots and egg whites and salt and pepper and all-purpose flour and friend and/or baked in olive oil, topped with sour cream and homemade applesauce. Followed by a small glass of eggnog for yummy cross-cultural culinary confusion.
Big mug of Big Train chai, which will always taste like the Koffee Klatch in Laguna Beach to me.

Actually, it isn’t boring at all. It is very interesting to see what people enjoy eating. What other people consider comfort food, or healthy can provide interesting insight, especially since you are not a meat eater it provides interesting ideas to try for those of us who aren’t about to give up grilling up some good ol’ dead cow or piggy, but like alternatives. So, I found that fun…just in case you care. I probably will only skim through it, but I appreciated you going to the trouble.
